WSWA National teams in 2007-08

The WSWA Board of Directors met recently and discussed taking somewhat of a different direction with the funding of our Cadet and Junior National Teams. We have been raising funds over the past couple of years which have been used to subsidize our National Dual Teams as well as our National Teams going to Fargo. The Fargo Nationals is a tremendous tournament however, for many of our wrestlers and they have 2-3 match per style and are done. On the other hand, at the National Duals each wrestler will have a higher number of matches because of the format of the tournament.

The WSWA Board of Directors has decided to explore different scenarios of shifting more of the sponsorship money to the National Dual Teams and possibly having two teams go back in both the Cadet and Junior age groups. We feel that the Duals would provide more mat time and experience for a larger number of our wrestlers compared to the Fargo experience which is great for the more elite wrestlers. We will most likely be decreasing the subsidy for Fargo and have those individuals that choose to go their shoulder more of the true costs. The money that would have been used to subsidize Fargo would instead be used to subsidize additional spots on the dual teams which we feel could provide more experience (at a lower price) for many of the states up-and-coming wrestlers. Will also be discussing trying to arrange the coaches and teams earlier in the year so as to have the best chance to have the most representative teams at the national dual tournament. This is all simply in the discussion stage now and more details will be provided once we have had had a chance to look at all the various options.
