2006 State Chairman’s Summit Notes

 

-         Beginning 2007-08 membership year, all coaches must be a minimum of Bronze Certified to coach at Junior Regional and National Championships

-         Increase the Junior and Cadet Division Heavyweight weight class to 285 lbs.  This will coincide with the change made by the National High School Activities Association

-         A minimum of 3 Women’s Junior Regional Championships will be held each year – USA Wrestling staff will determine dates and locations.  These events shall be qualifiers for the Junior Division National Championships presently in place.

-         Women’s Junior Weight Classes will change as follows:  95, 102, 109, 116, 124. 132, 139, 146, 153, 165, 190 & 220

-         Entry fee for Women’s Junior National Duals will be changed to $375 per team

-         Rosters for developmental dual teams must be submitted per policy (before weigh ins).

-         Three additional weight classes will be added to both the Men’s FILA Junior World division and the Men’s University Division.   Weights as follows (additional weights in bold):  FILA Jr. World:  50kg, 55kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 74kg, 79kg, 84kg, 96kg & 120kg

University  Div:  55kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 74kg, 79kg, 84kg, 96kg & 120kg

-         Three-quarter nelson will be allowed for USAW Kids Folkstyle Events

-         Cadet Division Separation procedures for Nationals – modification to Level #2:  Cadet – Level 2:  Top three finishers from current year or previous year Cadet Division out of style.  Top three finishers in style from last year Kids FS/GR National Championship Schoolboy/Girl Division which are eligible for Cadets

-         Any person holding a coach’s membership card and who is knowingly and intentionally involved in entering a competitor in an age category he or she is not eligible for, may be suspended from USA Wrestling Regional and National competitions for up to one year and ten days from the date of the event the competitor was entered or attempting to enter.

-         The Bronze Level NCEP Certification shall not be a requirement to be considered for a Team Leader position or an age group World Team.

-         The Sports Science Committee will be looking into the increases in age group concussions and investigate if the reason is the new rules.  The Sports Science Committee will also investigate if the use of mouth guards will achieve a lower cost and effective solution to the occurrence of concussions.

-         Clinics and practices will be conducted during the Cadet/Junior Nationals, by national team coaches or elite athletes, in order to provide a better experience for competitors who are eliminated from the competition.

-         The National Team training camps are to be scheduled, if possible, so as to allow National Team athletes to coach for state Cadet/Junior National teams.  USA Wrestling will try to match interested elite athletes who do not already have relationships with state teams with state teams in need of expert assistance.

-         A DVD on GR/FS strategy, technique and compatibility with Folkstyle will be created and distributed to State Associations.

-         Age Group Team Leader Form and Selection Criteria has changed for USA Wrestling Team Leader Pools.

-         National Dual Team Policies were revised

-         The use of a two piece singlet will not be allowed at any USAW Regional or National Championship.

-         Protest Procedures:  For any bout, a protest may be filed regarding any one period, but shall not affect the outcome of other periods.  In  the case a protest is upheld, that period shall be re-wrestled and the results of the entire bout shall be determined by the correct periods and the re-wrestled periods.

-         There is a schedule change to the Cadet/Junior Nationals.  They have cut several days off of the event to help alleviate the costs of traveling to the event.  The entry fee per style has changed to $40.00 per style.  The $10.00 increase is necessary to offset costs associated with decreasing the days of the event.

-         Oklahoma State Chairman, Archie Randall, was endorsed as the Chairperson of the National Council of State Chairpersons.
